BRAHMA SPORTS TEAM

Brahma was one of the largest breweries in Brazil and in 1996 it joined forces with the Green team (previous year's champion with Canadian Jacques Villeneuve) to form a Brazilian team in Indycar. With Jacques' departure to F1, the number 1 reserved for last season's champion became available.

The slogan for Brahma beer was "The number 1" and the team enlists Raul Boesel as the owner of number 1 that year and the team is renamed the Brahma Sports Team.

The team used the Reynard-Ford set and the constant engine failures meant that Boesel scored a measly 17 points and 22nd place in the drivers championship. With Barry Green maintaining the Ford engine for 1997, the Brahma group decides to end the partnership and look for another team.
